Where
are you from?
I was born on a bathroom
floor in Hertfordshire, just outside London.
When did you become interested in art/painting?
I cannot remember
NOT being interested in art. I used to paint stick figures
in castles when I was about 4 or 5. I was dyslexic as
a child and my teachers for the most part considered
me an idiot because I didn't participate much in class.
So I'd sit in the back of class and draw all day long.
Did you get any recognition for your early
efforts?
Yes, when
I was 10, I won my first drawing competition and then
again at 11, I won another where the prize was a trip
to Paris. I got to eat escargot and frogs legs with
the mayor. I was given a book on French Impressionists which
I believe my mum still has.
Why did you move to Texas?
I fell in
love with a beautiful Texan.
What
type of things do you like to paint now?
I like painting
things on a bigger scale. My passion is murals, but
I do enjoy the portrait work as well. There is a lot
of freedom in painting a BIG brush stroke. I like being
able to combine different art styles into one painting..to
combine abstact with a little realism, for example.
People see and interepret things differently in larger
paintings, which is nice.
What do you say to your clients who don't want the commitment
of a mural?
Some people
are worried about moving or what have you. I have done
several installation murals where I paint a large scale
mural on either canvas or wooden panels and then install
it. The advantage to this is that the painting can be
moved around and I needn't disrupt the household for
more than a few hours.
Can you paint anything? any style?
Pretty much..and I prefer to work with oil and latex
paints which are very versatile.
Is there anything
you won't paint?
I will not copy
someone else's work....like Disney characters, for example.
If you want a fantasy world on your wall, the way I
see it, why not make it your own fantasy?
Who are your clients?
My clients
have been commercial businesses, real estate gurus,
socialites, family, doctors, contractors, pub owners,
friends, restauranteurs, parents, grandparents,
all sorts really....I've shipped paintings across the
United States and also overseas.
If I commission a piece, how long will it take?
I work bloody
quick.
Will you travel?
Of course.
Anything else?
Visual Art
is one of our most important stimuli. A world without
art would be as bad as a world without music. The finest
and most beautiful spaces in the world have art of some
kind and I am proud that I can custom create for people
and let them make up their minds on what 'beautiful'
is.
